Richness of the written word
The reading nest contains a variety of texts: books (fiction and non-fiction), periodicals,
applied literature, manuscripts and books created by children.
In order for the younger reader to
develop an interest in the written word,
they need experience – to write on a
wide range of very interesting topics. A
reading nest in a crèche group room
should not only have board books but
real books too and different texts, for
example infants take interest in fashion
and technology catalogues, journals
with animal photos, food recipes and so
on. The choice of texts would increase
over time, and thus a child with an
interest in a particular topic (e.g. football
or dinosaurs) can browse such books and
the other way round as well – looking at

cultures, Greek mythology or Estonian
